On October 2, YANMAR America joined more than 130 other employees for a Career Day at Tennessee Tech University. YANMAR attended this event to search for and meet with local engineering candidates who are interested in pursuing a career with the company; and, company representatives, Selena Galmon, Jacob Garner and John Gierszewski had much success, as they met with over 50 students and received over 30 resumes. 

Jacob Garner, an engineer with YANMAR and a TTU alumnus, said regarding the event, “In terms of the value to YANMAR America, I see many positives from attending this and future collegiate career fairs. It allows the YANMAR name to be made public to engineers and others who are searching for opportunities. It also allows our staff to be involved in the pre-selection process for potential future co-workers prior to the candidates officially applying to YANMAR.”  Garner also added, “it is a great opportunity to give back to the school that helped me get here.” 

John Gierszewski, a senior engineer with the company, shared, “I was surprised at the interest we received from so many mechanical engineers, since there were many well-known companies at this event, including CAT, Nissan and other big automotive companies. But, one of the students commented on the fact that he was very impressed that we sent actual engineers to the event.”  He also added that many of the students were looking for internships and co-op opportunities in engineering, as well as other disciplines.

Overall, this was a very successful recruiting event for YANMAR America. From the event, the company was able to identify several candidates for possible full-time employment, as well as potential co-op opportunities. And while, the Tennessee Tech University Career Day was one of the first career events that the company participated in, due to its success, it will not be the last.
