Strengthening regional cooperation to revive fishing industry Urk

The visit of Urk Maritime to the Almere headquarters of Yanmar Europe, highlights the shared goal to bring the construction of fishing vessels back to Urk. An important milestone in this ambition is the completion of Z575 Janneke, the first large fishing vessel fully built in Urk in more than twenty years. The vessel, equipped with a medium-speed engine by Yanmar, was successfully delivered to her owner in the first quarter of 2025. A significant step forward for the local maritime cluster and shipbuilding community.

Advanced Propulsion and Operational Performance

The new fishing vessel reflects the high standards Urk is known for, combining fuel efficiency with strong seakeeping and fishing performance. At the heart of the vessel is a Yanmar 6N21AW medium-speed engine. The propulsion configuration results in remarkably low fuel consumption while maintaining the required towing power during fishing operations. This fuel efficiency is essential for reducing operational costs and supporting more sustainable fishing practices. The vessel was realized through close cooperation between numerous Urk-based maritime partners under the coordination of Werft. The project demonstrates the value of regional cooperation and supports sustainable economic growth.
