Designed to work effectively on a wide variety of sites, the SV100-2PB combines power, versatility, manoeuvrability, comfort and reliability with surprising compactness. It also offers easy maintenance. A two-piece articulated boom, normally only seen on heavy excavators, greatly facilitates lifting, moving and placing loads, with lifting capacity increased by 45% in some instances. A single top-mounted articulation cylinder offers total protection and divides dead weight by half, as well as greatly reducing total cost of ownership.

Weighing in at 10,360 kg, the SV100-2PB combines high performance with surprising compactness, closing the gap between mini and large excavators. Its length is 6,730 mm and its width just 2,320 mm. Just as importantly, it has a short swing of only 170 mm. Its minimum turning radius measures 3,440 mm. Measurements like these make it particularly suited for work in urban areas, with no need for blocking two lanes of traffic when one will suffice.

This type of configuration originates from heavy wheeled excavators and greatly facilitates lifting, moving and placing loads. The added articulation also improves manoeuvrability and precision load placing, and enables load chart improvement of as much as 45% in some areas. Yet the additional weight due to the articulated boom configuration has been limited to 845 kg, all contributing to the outstanding lifting ability and break-out force under high working pressure of this design.

We decided to use a single top-mounted articulation cylinder as this offers significant benefits, including total protection of the cylinder rod against damage. Dead weight is also divided by 50%, adding to overall stability. Daily maintenance needs and total cost of ownership are significantly reduced as well. This design also means it’s possible to use a slimline structure, which results in the best possible visibility in the market with this configuration. There are even operator comfort and safety benefits, thanks to the precise operation with proportional control delivered via the left joystick.

Standard equipment on this machine includes two auxiliary circuits with joystick-operated proportional control, plus adjustment using potentiometers. The proportional control adapts the flow of oil to the use and the needs of each attachment and task. This helps give the operator perfect control of all accessories, including hydraulic and manual quick couplers, swing buckets, ditch-cleaning buckets, symmetrical buckets, brush cutters and hydraulic hammers. All of these meet or exceed international safety standards.

The SV100-2PB is equipped with the VICTAS® system wherein the strength lies in the increase of the support surface and tracking through the use of asymmetric crawlers. This system, patented by Yanmar, reduces track degradation, makes displacements quieter and reduces vibration, making life easier for operators and increasing durability. Coupled with the use of a large counterweight and excellent all-round weight distribution, it provides the same or even higher stability than other machines in the same weight class, as well as delivering remarkable lifting capacities.

The Yanmar diesel engine with direct injection has a net output of 51.7 kW (70.3 hp) and meets EU Stage V emission standards. The electronic control unit and common rail system achieve an excellent power/consumption/noise ratio by controlled fuel injection. Additive-free operation reduces maintenance costs too. A dedicated Diesel Particulate Filter traps particulate matter in exhaust gas and burns it during its automatic regeneration. The exhaust gas is partially cooled and mixed with incoming air so as to lower the oxygen concentration in the intake. This system also lowers the combustion temperature and reduces nitrogen oxide emissions while boosting fuel efficiency.

The SV100-2PB uses a ViPPS hydraulic system, configured with one double, variable displacement, piston pump plus two gear pumps. These three main pumps totalise a maximum flow of 212.9 l/min, available for main machine operating movements. Pump flows are cumulated in the main control valves to obtain the optimal combination in terms of speed, power, smoothness and balance. An electronic hydraulic pump regulator adjusts its flow rate based on engine performance. The ViPPS system thereby delivers smooth and simultaneous performance of all operations, even while on the road.

An auto-deceleration mechanism reduces engine speed when the machine isn’t actively working, although this can be disconnected if preferred. When the control levers aren’t used for four seconds, the engine automatically drops to idle, returning to previous speed once they are moved again. This helps save on both fuel and emissions. Eco mode can save up to 17% of fuel, thereby reducing operating costs. It’s particularly useful when a task requires little power and low speed of movement, such as when levelling a field using a ditch-cleaning bucket.

An extra-large entrance leads to a similarly spacious interior, with plenty of legroom. Many thoughtful design touches further improve operator comfort and work rates. These include a wide seat with air suspension and headrest. This allows operators to find the right position for their build and to reduce shocks and vibrations. The cab is mounted on an innovative silent block anti-vibration and noise reduction system, which reduces sound levels reaching the interior by around 97 decibels. The five support points also absorb even significant vibrations.
