ORACLE TEAM USA
In its capacity as an Official Technical Partner, Yanmar will power ORACLE TEAM USA's defense of the 35th America's Cup, the competition for the oldest trophy in international sport, hosted in Bermuda in May and June of 2017. Yanmar's high-performance 8LV marine engines and stern drives power the team's three chase boats and give ORACLE TEAM USA the winning edge it will need to overcome the strong field of challengers.
Yanmar's support continues on from a successful collaboration in the 34th edition of the America's Cup held in 2013, when the team celebrated its victory over Emirates Team New Zealand, after a dramatic three weeks of racing that resulted in one of the all-time greatest comebacks in sporting history.
Yanmar has a wealth of experience in delivering technologically sophisticated marine engines, drive systems, and products and service of unparalleled performance and quality. Yanmar will pursue the highest levels of technological excellence towards assisting the crew in their pursuit of victory in the 2017 finals.
The 8LV inboard marine diesel engines and ZT sterndrive systems power the team's three chase boats, renamed "Chase Boat YANMAR 1", "Chase Boat YANMAR 2" and "Chase Boat YANMAR 3" respectively. Not only do the boats provide towing as required, they also play an essential role of tracking race progress, gathering and analyzing data on the crew's daily performance and stand by to provide support for any eventuality. A dependable partner during training at the team's base in Bermuda, the boats will assist the crew all the way through to the final battle of 2017.
"Yanmar is critical for ORACLE TEAM USA," said skipper Jimmy Spithill. "The race boats are so fast now, the only way we can have our chase boats stay close enough to support us is to have them powered by the right engines. The chase boats help us gather and analyze data on the performance of the race boats. The durability and reliability of the Yanmar engines allow us to go into the race with confidence. We are going for our third straight victory with Yanmar."
With its reputation for reliability and environmental performance under the harshest of conditions, Yanmar was approached by ORACLE TEAM USA in 2012 to supply engines capable of matching the speeds of a new class of racing yachts being developed. From the preliminary stages of the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series to the 2017 America's Cup Match presented by Louis Vuitton, Yanmar will work side by side with the team towards triumph in the America's Cup.
ORACLE TEAM USA
ORACLE TEAM USA is the defending champion of the America's Cup, after winning the last two editions in 2010 and 2013.
Skipper Jimmy Spithill led his team to an inspiring comeback win over Team New Zealand in the last Cup. Down 8-1, and facing match point, ORACLE TEAM USA won the final eight races of the match to win the America's Cup 9-8. Now, Spithill is preparing to lead his team to a ‘three-peat' — a third consecutive victory.
Spithill, along with COO Grant Simmer and sailing team manager and tactician Tom Slingsby, has assembled a younger, stronger crew, capable of facing up to the massive physical and mental challenges posed by the new America's Cup Class boats.
The design team features many of the top American and international yacht designers in the world, while ORACLE TEAM USA's boat-builders and shore crew are second to none.
Yanmar was established in 1912 and in 1933 became the world's first manufacturer to develop a practical small diesel engine. Yanmar has a global workforce of over 16,000 and a sales network operating in more than 130 countries. It designs and manufactures diesel engines, accessories and equipment and machinery for a wide range of applications in pleasure and commercial marine, industrial use, agricultural machinery, construction equipment and power systems. The company has pioneered clean emissions technology and sustainable energy technologies. With global headquarters in Osaka, Japan, Yanmar is well recognized for the unsurpassed quality of its products.

The America's Cup
The America's Cup is the competition for the oldest trophy in international sport and dates back to 1851. Over that time, teams representing just four nations (the United States of America, Australia, New Zealand and Switzerland) have won the trophy in over 160-years of competition.
It is one of the greatest challenges in all of sport.
