The International Moth class is a class of sailing on a hydrofoil equipped, single-handed, high-speed operated yacht. With a high-tech design that can reach intense speeds, moths have become one of the most popular classes in sailing in recent years. As sailing on a moth requires not only expert technique but also a strong physique, it is being employed as a training vessel by top sailors, including Olympic and AMERICA’S CUP sailors from all over the world. Yanmar is the Official Technical Partner of Oracle Team USA; back to back champion in the world’s highest ranking race, the AMERICA’S CUP. With 15 years having passed since the tournament was last held in Japanese waters, Yanmar is leveraging its position as the title sponsor to bring marine sports further into the spotlight.
“YANMAR Moth Worlds 2016” brings together the world’s finest sailors for a high-speed yacht race
At the official press conference held on the first day of the tournament the CEO of Oracle Team USA, Russell Coutts, talked about the deep relationship between the AMERICA’S CUP and moth class sailing, in addition to amicably exchanging views with other participating sailors in the race. Alongside the moss sailors were also other local sailors from the Hayama Port area and youth sailors, excitedly gathering around to receive an autograph from the sailing legend. Taking place over 6 days the tournament attracted large crowds.
