NEW FERRY FOR EAST TIMOR HAS YANMAR POWER

Damen Shipyards Group in the Netherlands has selected two YANMAR 6EY17W propulsion engines for a new passenger roll-on-roll-off ferry, the RoPax Ferry 6716. The ship will operate a route between the Timor-Leste capital Dili, the Oecusse enclave and the island of Ataúro in Southeast Asia for the fast and safe transport of passengers, vehicles and goods on the north coast of the island. YANMAR already has a strong position in Southeast Asia, and has now extended it to East Timor.

First-ever online FAT

Before the engines were ready to be installed on the ferry, they were, as usual, subjected to an extensive Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) to verify that they were built and operating in accordance with design specifications. And they succeeded, as expected. For the first time in our history, this test was carried out remotely in a digital environment, due to the current COVID-19 safety measures.

Reliability and regional representation

Damen Shipyards has selected YANMAR to supply its 6EY17W engines because of their high reliability and uninterrupted operation. What also pleaded in favour of YANMAR was the broad and highly professional service network in the Southeast Asian region plus the stability of supply with Genuine YANMAR Parts, which significantly reduces maintenance time and increases operating time.
