The Ronja Aurora has gone into service off Norwegian waters for operator Sølvtrans. She is number four in a series of twelve ordered from Aas Mek. Verksted A/S, proceeding vessels include the Ronjas: Queen, Azul, Explorer, Princess, Queen and others all built on the same AAS 3002 ST template.

Motive power comes courtesy of a Yanmar 6EY26W, producing 1,920 kW at 750 RPM, connected to a Brunvoll gear and propeller. Majority of them come with SCR system. It’s a tried and tested formula for the Ronja series, the whole range has the same specification, and the shipyard has been fitting Yanmar engines since 2019. Operating speed is 13 knots.

“I always enjoyed our cooperation”

Ruben Antvelink comments:

“For me Aas Mek marks a new period in my career within Yanmar. Aas Mek was the first project I started working on as an Area Sales Manager for the Commercial Marine Large engine business. Coincidentally this was NB199, so I was almost directly involved with all projects. Over the years with Aas Mek, I have been working with 3 different project managers. Even though the project managers changed, I always enjoyed our cooperation and the quality of the vessels that keeps being excellent. They even manage to get them better and better with every new vessel we deliver with them. With the current project manager, Mr. Ronny Uren, I have a very good relationship and have optimised the specifications and scope of supply contributing to the smooth transition from vessel to vessel in this series and an increasing quality level along the way. Even though we are nearing the end of this series, I have good hope we can continue our relationship with Aas Mek for years to come”

Healthy cargo: salmon and trout

She’s crewed by 12, with separate cabins and access to a galley, coffee bar, TV lounge and exercise room. Capacity is 3,000m3 split between two tanks, which equates to around 450 tonnes of live fish. Operations are controlled from four positions in the wheelhouse, where a comprehensive CCTV system allows the crew to monitor tasks like water treatment and lice removal to ensure the health of the cargo, consisting mostly of salmon and trout.
