Yanmar Co., Ltd.

Yanmar opens a new showroom in Fukuoka, Japan on March 16th, 2018. The showroom features exhibits on the history of Yanmar's construction equipment, and showcases future concept models.

A pioneer in compact construction equipment since 1968 when the YNB300 self-propelled wheeled mini excavator equipped with a Yanmar diesel engine was launched, it has now been 50 years since YCE first started selling mini excavators. To celebrate, this showroom has been established as a place where visitors can learn about Yanmar’s construction equipment business.

With a view to strengthening customer relations and further elevating customer satisfaction Yanmar will strive to provide safe construction sites and contribute to the creation of cities that are comfortable to live in.

The Yanmar Construction Equipment Showroom

1. Products that mark the beginnings of compact construction equipment

The mini excavator and walk-behind dozer on display at the showroom were where today’s compact construction equipment began. The Y9D walk-behind dozer (manufactured in 1972) made it possible to carry out work on Japan's characteristically narrow construction sites, and helped ease the problems of labor shortages and a sudden jump in labor costs. The YB1200SS mini excavator had all the features found on present-day mini excavators becoming a hit product that sold more than 10,000 units.

2. Y-RENOVATOR concept models

Continuing with the mechanization of manual labor, YCE has turned its attention towards the renovation industry, a domain where growth is expected globally. Dismantling the interior of a building is backbreaking manual labor and will require new kinds of equipment for mechanization. Yanmar is developing machinery to meet the special needs of this industry. Concept models on display look towards a future set around the year 2035 and the two models on display have three points in common: 1) small enough to load into an elevator, 2) great versatility thanks to interchangeable attachments, 3) the capability for autonomous operation.
There is also a simulator installed within the showroom that allows visitors to experience the concept models at work.

3. Promoting a deeper understanding of Yanmar Construction Equipment

Other exhibits feature interactive displays and show Yanmar Construction Equipment’s history and all the products brought to the market to date together with TV commercials of the period. A diorama of the factory and monitors showing a live feed from the plant is just one of many displays that give visitors a deeper understanding of Yanmar’s activities.

With beginnings in Osaka, Japan in 1912, Yanmar was the first ever to succeed in making a compact diesel engine of a practical size in 1933. Moving on, with industrial diesel engines as the cornerstone of the enterprise, Yanmar has continued to expand its product range, services, and expertise to deliver total solutions as an industrial equipment manufacturer. As a provider of small and large engines, agricultural machinery and facilities, construction equipment, energy systems, marine, machine tools, and components — Yanmar’s global business operations span seven domains.
