Yanmar Reorganizes Agriculture-Related Business

February 24, 2021
YANMAR HOLDINGS CO., LTD.

OSAKA, Japan (February 24th, 2021), YANMAR HOLDINGS CO., LTD. has decided to merge YANMAR AGRIBUSINESS CO., LTD., its core agricultural business company and, YANMAR AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY MANUFACTURING CO., LTD., the company’s agricultural machinery manufacturing subsidiary effective on March 1, 2021.

1. Background and purpose of the reorganization

Recent years have seen an increase in large scale farming in Japan, brought on by process of consolidation of smaller holdings, as an aging agricultural population gives up the land. At the same time, the decline in the number of people involved in agriculture in Japan has led to workforce shortages, with efforts currently underway to advance agriculture using digital technology to offset this trend. In addition, overseas, the number of agricultural workers is decreasing due to the progress of industrialization, mainly in emerging countries, while demand for food production continues to grow with the world’s population increase.
With a view to contributing to the development of global agriculture, the Yanmar Group will integrate its agricultural development, production, planning, and quality assurance functions together within the same corporation, towards the realization of the company’s vision of "developing agriculture into a food value chain". After reorganization, the head office will move from Osaka to the manufacturing base in Okayama to emphasize a focus on on-site manufacturing.

“The new company will build a solid foundation as an agricultural machinery manufacturer by further strengthening cooperation between each functional department,” said Nagamori Masuda, president of Yanmar Agribusiness. “By providing solutions that meet the needs of customers, more than ever, we will work to improve productivity and raise income levels for agricultural producers.”
