Within Yanmar Marine, the R&D organisation drives innovation and product development with a strong focus on electrification and sustainable propulsion systems. The Senior Engineer Development plays a key role in leading complex development projects and translating new electrical concepts into reliable, high-performing technical solutions.
What are you going to do?
As our Senior Development Engineer, you lead and execute development projects focused on electric and hybrid propulsion systems. You take ownership of technical solutions from concept through validation and work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure successful project delivery.
Your main tasks and responsibilities:
- Lead electrification-related development projects from concept to validation
- Define project scope, milestones, and technical deliverables
- Monitor project progress, timelines, and technical risks
- Develop system-level designs for electric and hybrid propulsion systems
- Translate functional requirements into complete technical solutions
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and marine safety standards
- Coordinate prototype development and component sourcing
- Define validation plans and oversee testing activities
- Analyse test results and implement technical improvements
- Lead root cause analysis for complex development issues
- Collaborate with internal departments, including Sales, Supply Chain, Service, Quality, and Production
- Work closely with R&D teams in Japan to ensure global alignment
- Interface with external vendors for component development and integration
- Prepare technical documentation and support product introductions
- Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation, and value engineering initiatives
- Support and mentor junior engineers when required
Who are we looking for?
The ideal Senior Development Engineer is a technically strong and proactive professional with experience in electrification and system development. You can manage complex projects independently, collaborate across functions and cultures, and translate technical concepts into practical solutions.
The ideal candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in product development within electrification, automotive, or marine sectors
- Experience with electric drives and knowledge of CAN protocols is a plus
- Strong understanding of electric propulsion systems
- Ability to manage technical projects and coordinate multiple stakeholders
- Fluent in written and spoken English; other European languages are a plus
Applicants must currently reside in the Netherlands and be eligible to work in the country, including having a valid work permit or a valid passport.
