Yanmar is proud to announce its fundamental contribution to the construction of the new pedestrian suspension bridge over the Varrone River, a one-of-a-kind project that will connect the towns of Tremenico and Lentrèe, in the municipality of Valvarrone (LC).

At approximately 450 meters in length and 200 meters above the valley floor, the bridge will be the highest suspension bridge in Europe, destined to become a unique attraction for the area.
From the early stages of construction, a key role was entrusted to the Yanmar ViO12 excavator, chosen for its low weight and ease of airlift, combined with high strength and speed for its compact size. These characteristics are essential for tackling the delicate consolidation and material handling operations in the complex context of a high-altitude construction site.

A record-breaking project for Valvarrone

The company Ponte dei Minatori S.r.l., entrusted with the project and supported entirely by private capital, emphasizes its extraordinary public and strategic importance for the economic, tourism, and cultural development of the entire valley.

The bridge will have a dual purpose for the local community: on the one hand, it will end the isolation of the southern slope, becoming the first step in a broader redevelopment project (former Lentrèe mines, village redevelopment, and renaturalization of wooded areas); on the other, it will offer a new eco-sustainable tourist attraction, allowing visitors to experience the unique thrill of walking 200 meters above sea level, in complete safety and surrounded by a spectacular panorama.

A record-breaking project that will propel Valvarrone onto the international stage, attracting travelers from around the world and becoming a true symbol of innovation and valorization of the area.

Testimonial from the construction site: the added value of Yanmar

"Our company had never owned Yanmar machines, but after purchasing the ViO12, used for the Val Varrone bridge project, we decided to expand the fleet with a ViO33 and a ViO57, which replaced other brands thanks to their high performance in the field," explains Mr. Igor Memeo of RMI Costruzioni, the company responsible for the project.

"Today, we have approximately 20 excavators ranging from 1 to 10 tons, and our goal is, over time, to have an entire Yanmar fleet. We are already evaluating the purchase of a ViO23 and an SV100.
RMI COSTRUZIONI SRL was founded on the experience of the Memeo brothers, heirs to a solid family tradition in the construction sector. Established in 2001 as a small business, it has evolved into a structured organization operating in both the private and public sectors. Since 2022, it has collaborated with Paredil SNC and contributed to the construction and sale of over 200 properties. Today, it employs 39 highly specialized employees and a fleet of 65 modern vehicles, guaranteeing quality, safety, and sustainability thanks to its ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 certifications, as well as CQOP SOA accreditation for public works.

A reliable ally

Ponte dei Minatori's operational needs were met thanks in part to the support of Yanmar dealer Canziani, who provided technical advice and timely assistance throughout every phase of the project, ensuring the equipment's full operational readiness. Canziani Paolo is based in Saronno, in Lombardia, in northern Italy, and operates in the sale of earthmoving, construction and road machinery. The year of its foundation, 1993, saw the beginning of a 30-year collaboration with Yanmar CE.

The undeniable quality of Yanmar machinery made it possible to complete such an ambitious and complex project, destined to set a technical record and, at the same time, represent an intervention of extraordinary socio-cultural significance, aimed at protecting and developing the Valvarrone area.
