Chosen for its variable undercarriage, advanced hydraulics, and ability to work where other machines cannot, the Yanmar ViO23-6 is helping specialist contractor VTM Group restore the Vallo di Diano’s vital irrigation network and improve water flow across the region.

The Yanmar ViO23-6 mini-excavator proves to be a key asset in a major hydraulic maintenance project benefiting the Vallo di Diano area, in the heart of the province of Salerno. Thanks to its compact dimensions and variable undercarriage width, the machine made it possible to work precisely in areas where access is difficult for traditional equipment, ensuring efficiency, safety, and environmental care.

A project serving the territory

The project, entrusted to VTM Group of Padula under the supervision of Mr. Tony Votta, involves cleaning and restoring irrigation channels extending over a network of more than 30 kilometers. The goal is to ensure the proper flow of water by preventing blockages caused by spontaneous vegetation and debris, thereby guaranteeing more sustainable water management for the agricultural activities of the entire area. The canals vary widely in width, depth, and accessibility, with several sections bordering private farmland or crossing sensitive natural habitats, adding to the operational complexity.

Work began in 2025 and will continue through December 2025, involving a highly specialized team and a dedicated Yanmar machine: the ViO23-6. The intervention forms part of a broader regional effort to boost water efficiency amid changing climate conditions.

Agility and power even in the tightest spaces

The ViO23-6 was chosen for its exceptional operational versatility. Thanks to its variable-width undercarriage, the excavator can widen or narrow quickly, adapting to narrow paths, embankments, or uneven terrain without compromising stability or digging power.

This feature proved decisive for operating in challenging contexts such as the small rural canals of the Vallo di Diano, where machine access is limited and maneuvering precision is essential. The ViO23-6 model also benefits from Yanmar’s advanced hydraulic system, delivering smooth, precise movements even at low speeds, which is essential in sensitive working environments. The VTM Group team reported that the combination of compact size and strong breakout force makes day-to-day tasks significantly more efficient and:

Field testimony

“The Yanmar ViO23-6 allowed us to work in spaces where other excavators simply couldn’t go,” explains Tony Votta, owner of VTM Group. “The ability to adjust the track width based on the terrain saved us time and reduced movements. It’s a powerful, maneuverable, and very stable machine, perfect for a project like this.” He also highlighted operator comfort and fuel efficiency as important advantages during long working days.

Yanmar reliability in continuous local support

The operational success of the project has also been made possible thanks to the constant technical and logistical support of the local Yanmar dealer, Villano Oreste of Sunrise Trading Italy S.r.l., a well-established reference point for the Salerno area.

The expertise of their team and their ability to provide punctual assistance and tailored solutions ensured full efficiency of the machines at every stage of the work, further strengthening Yanmar’s reputation as a reliable partner for sector professionals. From rapid parts delivery to on-site checks during critical phases of the canal restoration.

A concrete commitment to the environment and local agriculture

The recovery and maintenance of the irrigation canals of the Vallo di Diano represent a strategic investment for environmental protection and agricultural enhancement in the Salerno area. The project contributes to safeguarding water resources and supporting the productive continuity of a region with a strong rural vocation, an effort Yanmar is proud to have facilitated.

Supporting customers in preserving natural resources aligns closely with Yanmar’s long-term mission to deliver smarter, cleaner, and more efficient construction equipment for communities across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa – and beyond.
