A Yanmar ViO57 compact excavator helped prepare and level operational yard areas at the Cilione bergamot essence factory in Calabria, supporting improvements to the site’s production infrastructure.

In the heart of the province of Reggio Calabria - an area known worldwide for the cultivation of the prized Bergamot of Calabria - ground preparation work was recently carried out at the Cilione bergamot essence factory.
The project, privately commissioned by the company’s owner, was made possible by Gironda Costruzioni – a local construction company specialising in groundworks and site preparation. The aim was to improve the functionality of the plant’s operational areas where the valuable fruit peels are processed and transformed into aromatic essences destined for the international cosmetics and perfumery industries.

Start of the works and site organization

For the project, relied on the Yanmar ViO57 compact excavator, chosen for its compact dimensions, operating stability and ability to work efficiently in restricted spaces. Operations began between December 17 and 18, 2025, and involved arranging a section of the outdoor production area used for material handling and internal circulation within the facility.
The work was divided into several operational phases: an initial preparation of the sub-base with ground leveling, followed by a second phase of finishing and surface consolidation to ensure stability and uniformity of the working platform. Once the base preparation was completed, the project moved into its final phase with the supply and installation of stabilized material and 3 mm gravel. Using the Yanmar ViO57-6B fitted with a grading bucket, the team carefully distributed and levelled the material across the site before final compaction, to create a durable surface capable of supporting operational vehicles and facilitating daily activities at the production facility.

Performance in the field: The versatility of the ViO57

The Yanmar ViO57-6B played a central role throughout the project, combining strong digging performance with the manoeuvrability required for the enclosed site. Thanks to the reduced tail swing design typical of the ViO series, combined with its narrow width of 1,990 mm and a digging depth of up to 4.2 m, it was able to operate with precision even in the tightest areas of the industrial site.
The machine’s true zero tail swing design allows the counterweight to remain within the machine’s track width during rotation – particularly suitable for Gironda Costruzioni when operating along the walls of the indoor site. The speed at which the leveling and gravel distribution operations were carried out, powered by the ViO57-6B’s 33.5 kW Yanmar diesel engine, further helped optimize working times and ensured smooth progress across the site.

The machine was supplied by Co.Ma.Ri.A. S.r.l., an authorized Yanmar dealer for the Calabria region. Co.Ma.Ri.A. S.r.l. is a company located in Stella Marina (CZ), specializing in the sale of earthmoving machinery and equipment, and also active in the sale of vehicles and spare parts. It is based in the province of Catanzaro and serves as a key reference point for the sector in the area.
