Yanmar to Sponsor “Team APEV with Monster Sport” in Pikes Peak International Hill Climb

Yanmar will sponsor the Association for the Promotion of Electric Vehicles (→APEV)’s electric vehicle racing team “Team APEV with Monster Sport”, and will provide diesel generators to power the vehicles.
Japan-based APEV is active in the promotion of electric vehicles in an effort to help create and preserve a self-sustainable society. As a part of that mission, since 2012, it started the “Pikes Peak EV Challenge Committee” and has participated in the “Electric Vehicle Class” of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado, U.S.A. The team’s driver, Nobuhiro Tajima of Monster Sport, had a spectacular 1st place finish at the event in 2013.
Yanmar has continuously worked to further the revolution for environmentally responsible technology and make diesel engines more energy efficient, thus contributing to the realization of a more environmentally conscious society. Yanmar also provides highly efficient, clean cogeneration systems, generators, and other innovative energy solutions for the world market.
Yanmar also actively sponsors the Cerezo Osaka and Manchester United soccer teams, as well as the Oracle Team USA sailing team, as a way promote its brand through sports. At the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, Yanmar will support the racing team by supplying generators as they race through a harsh environment over 4000m above sea level.
This year, the race will unfold from June 23-29 in the Pike National Forest, located in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, U.S.A.

Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb is an automobile race that takes place in the middle of the expansive natural scenery of Pike National Forest, located in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. First held in 1916, this year marks the 91st running of this historic race.

The racing team was created by APEV, which aims to further the use of electric vehicles. Nobuhiro Tajima, 10-time champion of the tournament and known as “Pike’s Peak Legend”, will be the team’s driver after his remarkable victory last year in the electric vehicle class against a luxury car manufacturing team.
