Our Philosophy

The Purpose “A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE — New Value through Technology —” is the answer to the fundamental question: “Why do we exist?”

We create a world that embraces not only economic wealth, but also coexistence with nature, spiritual fulfillment, social harmony, and our own happiness and satisfaction—YANMAR’s reason for being is to realize all these together.
Of all the “new values” we aspire to, especially in today’s world, we struggle with aligning the prosperity of humans and nature, resulting in a trade-off choice. We challenge and overcome this trade-off with the power of technology.

What’s important here is that we say “A” SUSTAINABLE FUTURE — New Value through Technology —. While “the” indicates a single, absolute correct answer, “A” is one future among many possibilities. We think that there is not just one path to a sustainable future. We move forward toward the future that we believe in, while respecting the future of others.

No matter how much the world changes, our Purpose serves as an unwavering North Star that guides all of our decisions and actions.

Shaping exciting futures where people and nature thrive together, bringing inspiration through what we do

The Vision is a snapshot within our journey to achieve our Purpose, showing what we want to be in ten years.

Pursuing both human prosperity and natural abundance simultaneously, without compromise. That is our “New Value,” and “futures where people and nature thrive together.”

It also embodies our commitment to achieving a state where both people and nature truly flourish together, going beyond mere “coexistence” where neither people nor nature are sacrificed. This is the “exciting future” we envision.

Moreover, we also picture our customers and stakeholders being excited about the future we create, allowing us to become even more immersed and excited about our work, and in turn, creating even more exciting futures.

We aspire to achieve such cycle of excitement in ten years.

To realize a future with the New Value through this cycle, we must not only satisfy existing customers but also deliver value to a broader audience and gain recognition. “Bringing inspiration through what we do” represents this commitment.

Deliver maximum value using minimum resources to customers and society with technology-led solutions

While Purpose indicates “why we do our work,” the Mission shows “what we should do.”

Given the premise that people and society have limited resources, we commit to increasing efficiency through the power of technology.
However, technology alone does not create New Value. We must understand our customers’ challenges deeply and provide fitting solutions to address them. Only by combining technology and solutions do they demonstrate actual value to our customers and society.

In addition to the Mission that indicates what YANMAR as a group should pursue, each BUs have defined their own BU Missions covering “what New Value they aim to achieve,” “what technologies and solutions they’ll use to realize it,” and “what social and customer challenges will be solved through those solutions” within their respective areas of expertise. However, if each BU operates solely upon its BU Missions, we will not be able to accomplish our Group Mission.

HANASAKA / Founder’s Spirit

The foundation of all our philosophies is “HANASAKA” and the “Founder’s Spirit.”

The essence of our Founder’s Spirit remains at the core of what we believe and do today—maximizing the use of limited resources and contributing to society with appreciation.
“HANASAKA” is an interpretation of the founding spirit of our founder, Magokichi Yamaoka, and serves as our driving force to realize A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE — New Value through Technology —.

The spirit of our founder and our achievements to date are not a legacy of the past, but rather the origin we must always return to as we move forward into the future and carry them forward into the next century.
