Marstrand, Sweden (July 26th, 2021) – Yanmar has announced that it will continue its partnership with Dragon Class sailing as the Title Partner of the upcoming Dragon Gold Cup in Marstrand, Sweden. One of the most prestigious and exciting keel boat competitions in competitive yachting, the International Dragon Class has a distinguished history that dates back to the first designs crafted in Norway in 1928.
As Title Partner, the event will be known as the Dragon Gold Cup by Yanmar.
Held off Marstrand, Sweden from 12 to 20 August, the Gold Cup is the crown of the Dragon Class racing calendar and the Marstrand race marks the first time this event has been held since 2019, as the planned 2020 event had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is an honor for Yanmar to be able to partner with an event with such a long and storied history,” said Taro Kitamura, Executive Officer of the Marine Business in Yanmar Holdings Co., Ltd. “Through this support, Yanmar shows its commitment to sharing the joy and delight of the sea in a life filled with rich and fulfilling experiences.”

“The organizing authority Marstrands Segelsällskap and Göteborgs Kungliga Segelsällskap in cooperation with the Swedish Dragon Association, is honored to have Yanmar as title partner to the Dragon Gold Cup 2021,” said Christoffer Meyer, chairman of the Swedish Dragon Association. “We share the goal of a sustainable society and will work closely together to pursue this through a pioneering spirit.”

In keeping with the event’s theme of Sustainability, the organizers are making efforts to minimize the environmental footprint for the event as much as possible with measures to reduce the amount of waste on land and water, minimize CO2 emissions and fuel consumption, operate recycling stations at all jetties and during social events, and by using tap water instead of bottled water as much as possible.

Reveling in the spirit of challenge, Yanmar will enter its own Dragon Class racing team, YANMAR Racing, to compete in the Cup. Headed by America’s Cup veteran and 4-time World Match Racing Tour Champion, Peter Gilmour, the 3-person team is rounded out by Sam Gilmour, a talented and highly-rated young sailor who already has impressive results on the World Match Racing Tour and Yasuhiro Yaji, a sailor with a depth of match racing experience few can equal.

Yanmar has long supported mariners, providing solutions with a distinctive combination of experience and innovation. With its desire to share in the joy and delight of the sea with people all over the world through marine sports, Yanmar seeks to deepen its understanding of recreational marine activities through its association with the Dragon Class, in pursuit of the company’s Brand Statement: A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.
