Yanmar Europe Donates Water Pumps to Help Relieve Recent Croatian Floodings

In May 2014, Yanmar Europe donated four YDP30TN water pumps to help relieve the damages caused by the devastating floods and landslides in the Balkan region earlier in May. The pumps were donated to MPS, Yanmar’s distributor in Ivanić-Grad, a town in Zagreb County, Croatia. With a short ceremony, MPS handed them over to the local fire brigade, whose original equipment was destroyed by the floods.

Managing Director of MPS, Mr. Čedomir Vukas is very pleased with the donation. “The situation in Croatia after the flooding was very critical. Local firefighting stations were also affected and their equipment, including essential water pumps, in many cases destroyed. In order to help the local fire brigade in the inundated area, we asked Yanmar to accept special selling conditions for four YDP30TN water pumps in stock and take care of urgent delivery. To our great surprise, Yanmar Europe Industrial senior management decided to donate the water pumps as a gesture of support to the affected population. We handed the water pumps over to the fire brigade, who were very pleased to be able to continue their repair work thanks to the donation.”

Yanmar’s YDP diesel engine pump series handles all types of water, from fresh water to trash and muddy sludge. The YPD30TN is a trash pump, with a maximum capacity of 1,150 lit/min. Fuel-efficient diesel pumps can be operated 1.5-4 times longer than gasoline pumps. This advantage truly shows in night time and other continuous pumping operation at sites where no commercial power is available.

In May 2014, a large area of Southeastern and Central Europe was affected by extremely severe floods and over 2,000 landslides. It was the heaviest rainfall in 120 years of recorded weather measurements, spreading damage across many towns and villages. More than 80 people died as a result of the flooding, and hundreds of thousands were forced to leave their homes. Official counts indicate that over 1.6 million people were affected in the Balkan region after a week of flooding with an assessed damage of up to several billions of dollars. Until now, the region is still coping with the aftermath of the flooding
