The Yanmar 3TNV88C is a 1.642-litre, three-cylinder, naturally aspirated water-cooled diesel engine that produces 27.5 kW at 3,000 rpm. Its compact footprint and favourable power-to-weight ratio make it well-suited to weight-constrained mobile equipment with limited installation space. The engine is certified to EU Stage V and EPA Tier 4 Final emissions standards, and is available as a powerpack configuration for OEM integration.

SEB International selected the 3TNV88C for a new generation of heavy-duty cable recovery winches, citing the engine’s compact size relative to its power output and its low operating noise as decisive factors for a trailer-mounted, weight-limited application operating in residential environments.

The weight of the engine relative to the power output was a decisive factor. We considered other diesel engines, but they were physically much larger. The compactness of the Yanmar engine frees up space on the winch that we can use for ancillary equipment, making the units self-contained.
