DPF regeneration made simple

At Yanmar, we always want our partners and customers to be just as happy with the high quality of their engines when they leave the factory as with performance throughout their entire life cycle. Regular maintenance in accordance with factory guidelines is an important component for satisfied ownership.

Strict regulations

An example of regular maintenance is the periodic regeneration of the diesel particulate filter (DPF). Since January 2019, the EU Stage V Emission Regulation sets stricter limits for particulate matter (PM) emissions. The DPF collects the particulate matter or soot from the exhaust gas, resulting in cleaner emissions and good operability. That soot must be burnt or disposed of periodically in order to keep the filter clean.

Automatic regeneration

When the engine is operated at around 350°C, the soot is typically burnt and no further action is needed. In the event that the engine does not operate regularly in this temperature range, PM can clog the DPF. The electronically controlled engines will follow an automatic “reset generation” procedure without interrupting the work. Or, if more PM needs to be removed, start a fully automated stationary regeneration procedure.

Step-by-step video

With more than 600.000 DPF engines in the market, there is a growing need for service information about the regeneration procedures. That is why we have compiled a video with a step-by-step explanation of the regeneration procedure, for the Yanmar YT tractor. A new step in the further professionalisation of the European service and e-learning system. And another step to increase the Total Value of Ownership for our partners and customers
