Let’s enjoy art !
HANASAKA MURAL is art that anyone can easily enjoy. Art is not something to be appreciated only in museums, nor something that belongs only to someone else. Mural, wall art, is still unfamiliar in Japan, but we hope that many works of art will be born from this place and bloom in the world. With this in mind, we have named the project HANASAKA which means “to make flowers bloom” in Japanese. YANMAR has been supporting the next generation of athletes, and now we are expanding our support to artists who inspire people with our HANASAKA MURAL.
CURRENT WORK
NO LIMIT!!
Artist Comment
Rendered with the phrase ARIGATOUGOZAIMASU (thank you very much) and torus-shaped 3D lettering, the work expresses the circulation and dynamism of energy created by the overlapping edges.
By focusing on one section of the lettering and adding the shadows of cherry blossoms in full bloom, I infused the work with a feeling of gratitude—“thanks to all who support me.”
During the production process, I had many opportunities to communicate with people in the local community, and they gave me a great deal of energy.
A child I met while working gave me a sticker that said NO LIMIT!!, so I chose it as the title of the work.
I would be delighted if you could come and see it in person.
About the work
The work created by KOMESENNIN9 begins as lettering, yet by boldly cropping and enlarging a portion of it, it transforms from a sign that conveys meaning into an abstract form in which lines, planes, and colors resonate with one another.
Precisely because the whole is not revealed, it creates space to imagine the shapes and connections that extend beyond what is visible, drawing attention to the unseen presences and forces behind it.
This reflects the artist’s approach: sensing the people, things, and connections that surround him—an idea echoed in the Japanese expression “okagesama” (thanks to the support of others)—and transforming them into art.
CURRENT ARTIST
KOMESENNIN9
KOMESENNIN9 grew up between a coastal, mountainous town in Japan and Tokyo’s old downtown neighborhoods. He first picked up a spray can and began painting graffiti in his teens. The balance he developed between Japan’s abundant natural environment and the bustle of the city gave rise to his distinctive mode of expression.
Drawing on the interconnectedness and cycles of all things, and on shifting opposites such as life and death and light and shadow, he layers emotion and thought into lettering based on the double helix of DNA. By incorporating the many cues offered by nature, he creates and harmonizes a unique sense of flow and space. The world through KOMESENNIN9’s eyes is singular and mysterious—one that makes you want to take a closer look. In recent years, he has also been increasingly active overseas, including in China, Europe, the United States, and elsewhere in Asia.
In 2018, he painted a 35-meter-high apartment building.
In 2019, he contributed visuals to Sogo & Seibu’s Christmas poster campaign.
Beyond murals, his work includes the POOL series, which uses mortar and grew from an idea developed while building a skatepark; the Sculpture series, which turns lettering into three-dimensional forms; and the OKAGESAMA series, which focuses on shadows.
